Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed, a Democrat from Michigan, has expressed a willingness to collaborate with President Donald Trump on legislation aimed at increasing access to affordable healthcare. The incoming senator, who is scheduled to take office in January 2027, noted that he is prepared to work across party lines to achieve policy goals despite a history of political friction.

The two figures engaged in a series of public exchanges during the 2026 midterm election cycle. El-Sayed, a physician who campaigned on a platform that included Medicare for All, faced personal attacks during the race, while he simultaneously criticized the policies and rhetoric of the Trump administration.

Addressing the President directly in recent comments, El-Sayed suggested that a bipartisan effort could lead to significant legislative outcomes. He stated that the President could be the one to guarantee healthcare for every American, adding that he would be willing to put the President's name on such a bill.

Regarding the potential for cooperation, El-Sayed acknowledged the lack of a personal relationship between the two. He stated that he has never met the President, but emphasized his role as the senator-elect from Michigan and his intent to approach the legislative process with pragmatism.
