The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) has expanded its efforts to engage children through the Socialist Sprouts curriculum and Red Sprouts training programs. These initiatives are designed to provide what the organization describes as resistance-driven childcare and radical storytelling for young children.
The NYC-DSA Red Sprouts branch facilitates these programs by recruiting caregivers and conducting training sessions for what it terms kid spaces. According to program materials, the goal is to help participants provide childcare during protests, meetings, and community events, while using cooperative games and storytelling to introduce socialist ideals to children.
Training sessions for these programs have been documented periodically since 2019, with recent sessions held on Jan. 10, 2026, and Aug. 1, 2026.
Parental rights advocate Alleigh Marré has criticized the initiative, stating that the organization is attempting to indoctrinate children at a young age. The programs remain a central component of the group's efforts to integrate younger generations into its movement.
