Representative-elect Richard Ojeda, a retired U.S. Army major who won his seat in North Carolina’s 9th Congressional District on Nov. 3, said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth should be impeached. The comments from the incoming Democratic lawmaker follow his victory over incumbent Republican Richard Hudson during the midterm elections.
In an interview reported on Nov. 5, Ojeda stated that he believes the current administration requires investigation. He specifically cited concerns regarding the Trump administration’s military operations abroad as the basis for his call for accountability.
The push for impeachment comes as Democrats prepare to take control of the House of Representatives. While some lawmakers have expressed dissatisfaction with the tenure of the defense secretary, the White House stated on Nov. 4 that President Trump maintains full confidence in Hegseth.
