Senator-elect Abdul El-Sayed, a Democrat from Michigan, announced his support on Thursday for President Donald Trump’s proposal to terminate approximately $4 billion in annual U.S. military aid to Israel.
During an appearance on the program Morning Joe on Nov. 5, 2026, El-Sayed stated that he agrees with the president’s position on the matter. He expressed a willingness to collaborate with the administration to implement the policy, which aims to end the assistance by the end of 2026.
El-Sayed, who is the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Senate, argued against the continued subsidization of a foreign military. He further advocated for a halt to U.S. arms sales to the country, citing concerns regarding how the weapons are utilized.
The current U.S. assistance to Israel is provided under a 10-year memorandum of understanding. The alignment between El-Sayed and the president follows the 2026 midterm elections, which resulted in Democratic control of both chambers of Congress.
