More than 200 passengers were ordered to disembark the Villa Vie Odyssey on Oct. 27, 2026, after the residential cruise ship suspended operations while docked in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. The vessel, operated by the Florida-based Villa Vie Residences, is now under the control of its lender.
Dwight and Sheila Greene, travel vloggers from Fort Worth, Texas, who had purchased a cabin on the ship, are among those affected by the sudden shutdown. The couple is currently on a separate, previously booked cruise while awaiting further developments, noting that most of their belongings remain on the Odyssey.
The company cited rising fuel costs, linked to conflict in the Middle East that began in late February 2026, as the primary reason for the suspension. Prior to the halt, the operator had attempted to manage expenses by slowing itineraries and increasing time spent in ports.
Mike Petterson, founder and executive chairman of Villa Vie Residences, stated that the company is working toward a restructuring and recapitalization process over the next 30 to 90 days. A resident-led effort to purchase and operate the ship has officially failed, and reports suggest the vessel may be moved to Singapore for a potential auction.
Despite the uncertainty, Dwight Greene expressed optimism regarding the situation, stating he remains full of hope and faith that the group will survive the current challenges.
