John Deere has introduced a generative AI assistant named JD, designed to help farmers process large volumes of operational and field data through conversational queries. The tool, which was unveiled at the Farm Progress Show in Boone, Iowa, in September 2026, aims to simplify the interpretation of complex information collected by modern agricultural machinery.

The assistant is integrated into the company's Operations Center platform. According to John Deere, farmers can use the tool to ask specific questions about their operations, such as comparing fuel consumption across different years, evaluating planter performance, or identifying optimal harvest windows. The company states that the AI can generate insights in minutes that would otherwise require manual analysis over several weeks.

Melissa Neuendorf, principal product manager for customer AI solutions at John Deere, noted that the increasing amount of data generated by sensors has made it difficult for farmers to manually extract actionable insights. Jackson Baca, a product marketing manager at the company, emphasized that the tool relies exclusively on the farmer's own data rather than generalized information to ensure accuracy and privacy.

John Deere maintains a policy known as the Farmer Data Commitment, which stipulates that farmers retain ownership of their information and that data will not be sold or used for commodity trading. The company stated that the AI assistant is currently available through a limited early access program and is scheduled for broad release in mid-November 2026. Future development plans include integrating the assistant directly into G5 in-cab displays.
