Anthropic spent approximately $1.7 billion on personnel expenses during the third quarter of 2026, according to an amendment to the company's S-1 registration statement filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Oct. 26, 2026.

The expenditure averaged more than $322,000 per worker for the three-month period ending in September. These costs encompass cash salaries, bonuses, benefits, employer payroll taxes, and $1.1 billion in stock-based compensation for the company's 5,300 employees.

Despite the high per-employee cost, the company noted in its filing that personnel expenses as a percentage of total revenue decreased to 19% in the first half of 2026, compared to 46% during the same period in the previous year. Anthropic also reported that the internal value of its Claude assistant, measured at customer list prices, began exceeding monthly personnel costs, excluding stock-based compensation, in April 2026.

The company is currently preparing for an initial public offering on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol ANT. While the official listing date has not been finalized, reports suggest the company may target a mid-November debut.
