Two people were killed and two others were injured during a shooting incident early Monday morning along Jetty Road in Moss Landing, California. Deputies from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene shortly before 2 a.m. following reports of the violence.
The two individuals who died were pronounced dead at the scene. Of the two survivors, one sustained a gunshot wound of unknown severity, while the other suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening. None of the four victims have been identified by authorities.
The shooting occurred in a coastal area near the north jetty of Moss Landing Harbor, a location frequently visited by birdwatchers and beachgoers. Evidence from the scene indicates the incident may have taken place during a late-night gathering on the beach.
Cmdr. Andres Rosas of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office stated that investigators are processing a specific location in the area as a precaution, though it remains unclear if that site is directly connected to the shooting. While officials noted that a suspect could still be at large, they emphasized that there is currently no active threat to the Moss Landing community.
Jetty Road and Moss Landing State Beach remain closed to the public while the investigation continues. The California State Parks Police and the North County Fire Protection District assisted in the initial response to the scene.
