A previously unknown landscape painting by Georgia O’Keeffe, titled Near Abiquiu, New Mexico I, has been rediscovered after being stored in an East Village closet for decades. The work is now scheduled for auction, with estimates suggesting it could reach a value of up to $3 million.

The discovery was highlighted in a recent newsletter by Hakim Bishara for Hyperallergic, which also examined various developments within the contemporary art world. Among these topics, the publication addressed the presentation of Constantin Brancusi’s sculptures at the Museum of Modern Art, suggesting that the installation struggles with spatial constraints and crowd management.

The newsletter further featured insights from Colombian artist Doris Salcedo, who discussed the resilience of art in the face of political pressure. Reflecting on the removal of works from a national museum by a former president, Salcedo remarked that works of art last much longer than their governments.

The report also raised questions regarding the future of documenta 16, following the controversies that marked the previous iteration of the international exhibition. The piece concluded by noting broader cultural observations, including a recent visit to Taryn Simon’s exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum.
