Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis publicly rejected a report published by The Washington Post on Nov. 6, 2026, which alleged he is preparing a bid for the 2028 presidential election.
The newspaper's report cited three anonymous sources who claimed the governor had contacted at least one national political consultant regarding a potential campaign. The article also pointed to recent fundraising activities by his federal super PAC as evidence of his intentions.
In a response issued on the evening of Nov. 6, DeSantis stated that he has not reached out to anyone regarding a run for office. He characterized the report as a fabrication and described the claims as an attempt to generate web traffic.
The report follows the Nov. 3, 2026, midterm elections, which resulted in Democratic gains in both the House and the Senate. DeSantis, who previously sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, is currently preparing to leave office as Governor-elect Byron Donalds prepares to be sworn in.
