The University of New Mexico Police Department arrested two men on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, following an alleged plot to throw objects at attendees during a Turning Point USA campus event. The gathering, titled Prove Me Wrong, featured Kristan Hawkins, the president of Students for Life of America, as the guest speaker.

Authorities identified the suspects as Kevin Castro and Harrison Magnus. According to court documents, Castro was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct, and conspiracy. Police allege that Castro threw a lacrosse ball toward the crowd, which nearly struck an individual in attendance.

Magnus faces charges of conspiracy, disorderly conduct, and concealing identity. Investigators allege that Magnus communicated with Castro regarding plans to throw objects into the crowd during the event.

In a statement following the incident, a university spokesperson emphasized that the school supports freedom of expression but will not tolerate threats, violence, or conduct that violates the law or university policies. The spokesperson added that the university remains committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all students and staff.
