A gunman opened fire on pedestrians from a moving vehicle in the Main Square of Kraków, Poland, on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, resulting in six deaths and at least 15 injuries. The attack began at approximately 3:00 p.m. local time in the historic area, which is a frequent destination for tourists.
The victims included four women and two men. Among the 15 people wounded were two police officers, one of whom remains in serious condition. Police spokesperson Katarzyna Cisło characterized the perpetrator's actions as a violent drive through the square.
The suspect, a 24-year-old Polish citizen, was apprehended following a gunfight with law enforcement a short distance from the square. He was wounded during the exchange and is currently being held at a hospital. Authorities reported that the individual was wearing military-style fatigues and a bulletproof vest at the time of the incident.
Police recovered a military-type long gun, described in some reports as an AR-15–style rifle, along with additional weapons and ammunition from the suspect's vehicle. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński credited the quick intervention of police officers for the suspect's rapid apprehension, noting that the officers risked their lives to stop the attack.
While the Main Square was hosting a planned anti-government protest at the time of the shooting, authorities have not yet established a motive for the attack. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
