Actor Nicolas Cage has been forced to relocate to hotels following significant damage to his $10.5 million beachfront property in Malibu, California. The residence was rendered unsafe for occupancy after a large sinkhole collapsed the driveway on Sept. 8, 2026.

The sinkhole, measuring approximately 30 by 30 feet, destroyed the property's driveway and damaged infrastructure, including a privacy fence and a portable construction toilet. The incident also resulted in a gas leak, prompting the City of Malibu to red-tag 31 properties in the area due to concerns regarding emergency service access.

The damage occurred during a period of severe weather, as heavy rainfall and rough seas associated with the remnants of Hurricane Marie caused significant coastal erosion. Cage, who purchased the home in 2024, has since filed three permits with local authorities to address the situation, including requests for debris removal, soil sampling, and the installation of sandbags for wave protection.

Speaking at L.A. Comic Con on Oct. 31, 2026, the actor confirmed his current living situation, stating he is residing in hotels while working to mitigate the damage to his home. He noted that the displacement prevented him from spending the holiday at his residence.
