U.S. News & World Report released its 2027 rankings for the best places to retire, identifying Midland, Michigan, as the top destination in the country for the second consecutive year. The report evaluated more than 850 cities across the United States to determine the most suitable locations for retirees.

The rankings, which were released on Oct. 27, 2026, utilized data provided by Applied Geographic Solutions. For the 2027 index, the organization adjusted its methodology to place a greater emphasis on affordability and retiree-friendly tax policies in response to current economic pressures.

Following Midland in the rankings are Weirton, West Virginia, at No. 2 and Homosassa Springs, Florida, at No. 3. The broader list of the top 250 destinations continues to show a high concentration of cities in Florida and Texas, which are frequently cited for their low living expenses and favorable tax codes.

The findings were reported by Fox Business on Nov. 2, 2026, highlighting the continued prominence of these regions in the annual assessment of retirement environments.
