Pentagon data indicates that the ongoing conflict with Iran has resulted in U.S. war costs exceeding $47 billion. According to estimates from Moody’s, this financial burden translates to nearly $2,000 per U.S. household.

On Nov. 2, 2026, one day before the U.S. midterm elections, U.S. forces conducted a strike on Qeshm Island. Officials stated the military action was a defensive response after Iranian forces utilized surface-to-air missiles against U.S. assets.

The strike followed a statement from President Donald Trump on Oct. 8, 2026, via Truth Social, in which he asserted that the U.S. would not attack Iran prior to the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

While oil prices saw a decline following the elections, market analysts suggest this trend may not be sustainable. There is ongoing concern that further military engagements could increase the total cost of the conflict for American households, as experts note that the likelihood of an early agreement between the U.S. and Iran remains low.
