The one-year-old artificial intelligence startup Trajectory has secured $45 million in a Series A funding round, bringing the company's valuation to $300 million. The investment will support the expansion of a platform designed to automate the post-training process for AI models.

Founded by three Stanford classmates with backgrounds at Google DeepMind and Apple, the 18-person company aims to make AI model refinement accessible to nontechnical professionals. Co-founder Ronak Malde noted that while foundational models are highly capable, they often lack the specialized experience of seasoned human workers, comparing current technology to a brilliant student who must start fresh rather than applying years of job-specific knowledge.

The platform is intended to assist domain experts, such as doctors and lawyers, in fine-tuning models without requiring deep technical expertise. This process addresses a common challenge where foundational models struggle to learn from mistakes or adapt to specialized fields after deployment, a task that has traditionally required internal research teams or external engineers.

The funding round was led by Sequoia Capital, with participation from Nvidia, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Bain Capital Ventures. Early customers utilizing the Trajectory platform include Harvey, Rogo, Decagon, Mercor, and Nvidia.
