The advertising sector is experiencing a period of renewed merger and acquisition activity as strategic buyers look to expand their market capabilities. This shift follows a period of relative inactivity in the industry, with analysts noting that major players are increasingly active in seeking new assets.

Recent market movements include Publicis Groupe completing a $2.2 billion acquisition of the data company LiveRamp and Salesforce announcing a $5.7 billion deal for the customer-engagement platform Braze. Additionally, Affle has reported plans to acquire another adtech firm.

Industry professionals have identified nine companies as potential future buyers in the space: Accenture, Adobe, Havas, Omnicom, OpenAI, Publicis, Stagwell, The Trade Desk, and Zeta Global. Experts suggest that the current artificial intelligence boom is prompting these organizations to reconsider ad businesses that were previously overlooked.

Ana Milicevic, cofounder of Sparrow Advisers, noted that the primary value in these acquisitions lies in obtaining established advertising expertise. According to Milicevic, hiring teams that already function effectively and understand transaction values can accelerate a company's go-to-market strategy.

Joshua Wepman, a managing director at Houlihan Lokey, highlighted the cautious approach some firms may take regarding future deals.
