Alabama, Florida and Indiana conducted executions on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, marking a rare instance of three states administering the death penalty on the same calendar day. This event represents only the second time since 2010 that such a triple execution has occurred in the United States.
In Alabama, authorities executed a man convicted of the 1991 capital murders of Ivan and Lucille Moore. The state carried out the procedure using lethal injection.
Florida executed 64-year-old Jesse Guardado for the 2004 fatal stabbing of 75-year-old Jackie Malone. This case marked Florida's 19th execution of 2026, tying the state's record set in 2025. Before the procedure, Guardado issued an apology for the pain caused to the victim's family and his own. Following the execution, Patrick Malone, the son of the victim, questioned the consideration given to the long-term impact on families affected by such crimes.
Indiana officials executed 50-year-old Jeffrey Weisheit by lethal injection. Weisheit had been convicted for the 2010 killings of his girlfriend's two children, aged 8 and 5, during a house fire. He was pronounced dead at 12:45 a.m. local time.
While states do not coordinate their execution schedules, the triple event follows a year characterized by a high frequency of capital punishment cases. The only other occurrence of three states executing inmates on a single day in 2026 took place on Aug. 13, involving Alabama, Tennessee and Oklahoma.
