A security officer at the Citibank Center in Brandon, Florida, fatally shot a gunman on Wednesday after the suspect drove through a security gate and killed a company employee. The incident occurred shortly after noon when 35-year-old Jacob Pearson entered the campus and fatally shot 41-year-old LeAnne Selman, a learning advisor for Citi Security and Investigative Services.

According to Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister, Fraley took a tactical position in a men's restroom and fired five shots at Pearson. The suspect was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators reported that Pearson was armed with an AR-15 rifle, which malfunctioned, and a handgun, along with 90 rounds of ammunition. The shooting was reportedly motivated by a $2,500 debt. Approximately three hours before the attack, Pearson had contacted an attorney affiliated with Citibank to threaten violence if a court hearing regarding the debt was not canceled.

Sheriff Chronister stated that the security officer's actions ended the threat before further harm could be inflicted. Four other employees sustained minor injuries while evacuating the 3,200-person campus during the event. Citi CEO Jane Fraser confirmed the death of the employee and expressed condolences to her loved ones.

The Citibank campus remained closed to employees as of Nov. 5, 2026, with the company providing counseling and resources to staff. Authorities noted that Pearson had no prior criminal record.
