A 17-year-old suspect is in custody following a shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in the Solano Town Center that left a pregnant woman dead and six others wounded. The incident occurred on the evening of Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, in Fairfield, California.
The victim, 31-year-old Constance Hages, was a mother of four and was pregnant at the time of the shooting. Authorities stated that Hages was not the intended target of the violence. Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted act involving a dispute between the suspect and one of the other individuals wounded in the attack.
The suspect, identified as Monte Smith, was taken into custody on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, at his home in Suisun City during a SWAT operation. Smith faces multiple charges, including two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, and three counts of assault with a semiautomatic weapon, along with several weapons enhancements.
Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall confirmed that the suspect had a prior conviction related to a 2025 shooting at a school parking lot. Following the recent incident, Marshall expressed concerns regarding juvenile crime, stating that the event should not have occurred.
Solano County prosecutors have filed a petition to try Smith as an adult. An arraignment and detention hearing for the suspect was scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, in Solano County juvenile court.
