SpaceX is reportedly in negotiations to acquire Boost Mobile or gain access to its cellular network as part of an effort to establish a new wireless carrier service. The move follows reports that major U.S. carriers, including Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, have declined to provide SpaceX with access to their existing networks.

The company is a subsidiary of EchoStar, and discussions regarding a potential deal took place last month between Elon Musk and EchoStar Chairman Charlie Ergen. No agreement has been finalized, and any deal could be subject to the approval of AT&T and T-Mobile, as Boost Mobile currently leases network access from those providers.

To support its entry into the $235 billion U.S. wireless market, SpaceX has pursued significant spectrum investments.

The timeline for building a standalone carrier network remains a point of industry disagreement.
