California State Senator Scott Wiener has secured the election to succeed retiring Representative Nancy Pelosi in the U.S. House of Representatives. San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan conceded the race on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, after determining there was no remaining path to victory following the Nov. 3 general election.
As of the latest reports, Wiener held approximately 55.5% of the vote compared to 44.5% for Chan. While some major media outlets had not officially called the contest by late Wednesday, the concession from Chan effectively concluded the race for the seat, which had been held by Pelosi for nearly 40 years.
Wiener, who will be the first openly gay person to represent San Francisco in the U.S. House, expressed gratitude to voters for their trust. Chan acknowledged the results in a statement, noting that while she expected the margin to narrow, she did not have a path to victory and congratulated her opponent on his success.
She stated that her office is prepared to assist in the transition process for the seat. Wiener is scheduled to assume office in January 2027.
