A New York City subway train was halted in a tunnel for 90 minutes on the night of Oct. 31, 2026, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority into an unauthorized person on the tracks.

The 3 train stopped approximately 50 feet underground after departing the Bergen Street station. Passengers, many of whom were wearing Halloween costumes, remained on the train while it was powered off during the duration of the delay.

Rhea Nayyar, a reporter for Hyperallergic who was on the train, described the atmosphere among passengers as a mix of forced levity and frustration. During the wait, an elderly passenger suffered an asthma attack, leading other commuters to provide a spare inhaler to an MTA worker to assist the individual.

The incident was later documented in a report published on Nov. 3, 2026, which detailed the experience of those stranded in the tunnel.
