First Lady Melania Trump hosted a diplomatic event at the White House on Nov. 5, 2026, to discuss the recent humanitarian ceasefire in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, Ukraine. The event marked a rare gathering of representatives from both nations to address the success of the localized agreement.

The ceasefire, which lasted from Oct. 27 to Nov. 1, 2026, allowed for the evacuation of nearly 800 civilians and the delivery of essential supplies, including food, water, and medical aid, to the city's remaining elderly population. Melania Trump stated she served as the exclusive intermediary for the effort, overseeing logistics such as demining plans and evacuation routes.

Russian representatives in attendance included presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev and Human Rights Commissioner Yana Lantratova. The Ukrainian delegation was represented by David Arakhamia, leader of the Servant of the People party, and Parliamentary Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets.

During the proceedings, the First Lady described the ceasefire as a spark that could illuminate the potential for broader cooperation. She provided the envoys with personal letters addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, noting that the cooperation between the two leaders established a precedent for regional peace.

Ukrainian officials presented the First Lady with the Order of Princess Olga, First Class, in recognition of her humanitarian role in the negotiations. The White House noted that this event was the first time in U.S. history that a First Lady has hosted representatives from two nations currently at war for diplomatic purposes.

The parties are scheduled to meet again for a trilateral session involving the United States, Ukraine, and Russia in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 10–11, 2026.
