Prospective investors are signaling that a $1.5 trillion valuation for Anthropic is unrealistic, as the AI company faces a cooling market for technology stocks ahead of its planned initial public offering. Discussions are currently shifting toward a valuation range between $1 trillion and $1.3 trillion, well below the $2 trillion target previously associated with the firm.
The push for a lower valuation follows a period of significant volatility on the Nasdaq, which saw sharp declines around Nov. 5 and Nov. 6, 2026. Keith Lerner of Truist described the recent market environment as a buyers' strike in tech, reflecting a broader investor hesitation regarding high-growth technology companies.
Anthropic, led by CEO and co-founder Dario Amodei, had been expected to begin an investor roadshow during the week of Nov. 9, 2026, with the goal of listing on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol ANT before the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. However, the current market climate has cast doubt on that timeline, with some investors suggesting the company may need to delay the offering or reduce its fundraising goals.
The scrutiny follows an S-1 filing that highlighted the company's substantial net losses and heavy spending on compute infrastructure. These financial disclosures have prompted investors to reevaluate the company's valuation in light of the high capital expenditures required to sustain its AI operations.
