Georgia’s Pathways to Coverage program, which requires certain Medicaid enrollees to document 80 hours of work or qualifying activities per month, is scheduled to expire on Dec. 31, 2026. The program, launched in July 2023, currently serves 19,397 active members.

These federal requirements, which impose a national standard for community engagement among expansion-category adults, are set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2027.

The future of the program remains a central issue for candidates seeking to succeed Kemp.

TaNisha Cameron, a spokesperson for the Bottoms campaign, said the candidate aims to improve eligibility and enrollment systems to prevent coverage denials caused by paperwork requirements.

Regardless of the outcome of the gubernatorial election, state officials must ensure Georgia’s eligibility and reporting systems are compliant with the new federal standards by the start of 2027.
