Security forces deployed 70,000 personnel across France on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, as demonstrators defied official bans on gatherings to protest economic policies and the rising cost of living. The demonstrations, which marked the fourth consecutive Saturday of unrest, saw significant activity centered in Paris.

In the capital, police utilized tear gas and stun grenades to disperse crowds after individuals threw projectiles and fireworks at officers. Authorities reported that a group of approximately 200 people attacked security forces during an arrest. The Paris Police Prefecture had previously denied permits for the gatherings, citing a risk to public institutions and the safety of state agents.

The protests included members of the Yellow Vests movement, labor unions, and student groups. Among those arrested near the National Assembly were prominent Yellow Vest figures Benjamin Ball and Azelma Sigaux. Clashes were also reported in Bordeaux, Brest, and Lyon.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that authorities were prepared to handle rioters and looters, noting that the risk remained consistent with previous weeks. He instructed security forces to maintain their position.

Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu is scheduled to meet with union leaders on Monday, Nov. 9, 2026, to discuss wages and purchasing power. Following these discussions, labor unions have called for additional strikes on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2026.
