Apple released its latest entry-level earbuds, the AirPods 5, on Sept. 18, 2026, marking the first time the company has included Active Noise Cancellation as a standard feature across its base lineup.
The new earbuds are available in two configurations. A standard model is priced at $129, while a version featuring a Wireless Charging Case is available for $149. The wireless charging model also includes on-stem volume controls and offers slightly longer battery life than the base version.
The AirPods 5 feature an open-fit design and are rated IP57 for dust and water resistance. Additional technical capabilities include Adaptive Audio, Conversation Awareness, and support for Live Translation when used with compatible iPhone models.
In a review published on Nov. 3, 2026, Wired examined the new hardware, noting the inclusion of features previously reserved for higher-end models. The publication explored whether the capabilities of the AirPods 5 are sufficient for users considering them as an alternative to the AirPods Pro 3, which were released by Apple on Sept. 19, 2025.
