A federal grand jury has indicted a Henderson, Nevada, resident on a felony charge of threatening to kill President Donald Trump. Jason Randall Utlaut faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison if convicted of the charge.
The investigation began on Oct. 16, 2026, when the FBI’s National Threat Operations Section identified five posts on a YouTube channel that allegedly contained threats against the president and plans for a mass shooting. Authorities arrested Utlaut the following day, on Oct. 17, 2026.
During a search of the defendant's home and vehicle, law enforcement officers from the FBI and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department seized 15 firearms, along with ammunition and several firearm magazines. Utlaut remained in custody as of Nov. 5, 2026.
First Assistant United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada stated that threatening the life of the president is not protected speech and described the act as an assault on national stability. She added that her office and federal law enforcement partners do not tolerate those who use fear against public institutions.
Following the grand jury indictment on Nov. 4, 2026, Utlaut is scheduled to appear for an arraignment before a U.S. magistrate judge on Nov. 18, 2026.
