McDonald’s has launched an eight-week trial of new value-oriented menu options across approximately 1,900 U.S. restaurants. The test, which began by Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2026, explores various pricing strategies including mix-and-match selections and fixed-price bundles, such as a McChicken sandwich and small fries offered for $3.50.
The initiative comes as the company seeks to address a decline in customer traffic and intensifying competition within the fast-food sector. During the third quarter of 2026, spanning from July through September, McDonald’s reported a 0.2% decrease in U.S. same-store sales, marking the company’s first decline since early 2025.
Beyond the corporate-led trial, approximately 4,000 franchisees have independently introduced their own meal bundles to attract cost-sensitive consumers. This widespread activity reflects a broader effort to navigate a challenging economic environment where affordability remains a primary concern for diners.
Chris Kempczinski, chairman and CEO of McDonald’s, stated that the company aims to provide a clear and compelling value proposition for every customer, whether they are seeking individual items, complete meals, or digital offers through the mobile app. If the current test proves successful, the company intends to expand these value meal bundles to a wider market in early 2027.
